Walking in Ubud
Walking on the street in Ubud and a nice German gentleman struck up a friendly conversation with us as he was going in the same direction and about the same pace as we were. I asked, "Have you been here long?" "Since 1960," he said. And he started telling us how it has changed so tremendously- no electricity here back then. No hotels. He helped in the planning of the first one. He was fascinating! Would've loved to sit down over an iced latte and listen to him for hours, but he was meeting someone and we had to get to the ATM, so we parted company. But, that is what I love best about travel! The people you'd never meet otherwise. Little snippets of other lives lived in far different ways than our own.
