Why the Nomad Life is Great!!! Yep, we are homeless! (Part one)

Why the Nomad Life is Great!!! Yep, we are homeless! (Part one)

In March 2014 we sold the house and got rid of almost all our stuff and moved to a small apartment temporarily while waiting to retire in June and tie up some loose ends. In September we gave up the apartment and put our remaining worldly goods in storage and became homeless by choice and have not looked back! We hit the road in our SUV feeling freerer than we ever had! Then we hit the open seas! Then we took a bunch of flights! We've never wanted to go back "home" because now our "home" is wherever we are at the moment! We love it! Instead of our same familiar walls (which I'm pretty sure we'd  think need repainting along about now) we get to enjoy an infinite variety of walls we never have to paint!

We mostly use AirBnB, but we also stay in resorts and hotels and motels and on the occasional ship. We get to experience lots of different decor! We always try to stay in pretty places (most are, but not all have been) because how a place looks has a direct impact on our moods and how much we enjoy our stay. It also has to be really clean (there was one notable exception, a really old and pretty captain's cottage in Cape Cod that we would have loved if it hadn't smelled of wet dogs - eww!). Wifi and a comfortable bed and a nice sitting area are also musts (no matter how hard we try, occasionally we get a place with poor wifi or no comfy sofa or chairs). Well equipped kitchens are a plus, but, honestly, we are so busy checking out the local restaurants, we don't really cook much - even when we stay in one place for a month or more! Throw in lots of fluffy towels, an amazing view, and a housekeeper and we're in heaven! We don't always have loads of fluffy towels (I don't understand why not!) or a great view or a housekeeper, but we love it when we do! Another thing I'd like but hardly ever have is a full length mirror! Really, would it kill them to buy one? I either have Larry snap my picture before we leave the house or else I wind up checking my reflection in store windows while we're out, but if I do the latter it's too late to change what I'm wearing by that time!

Overwater bungalow in Mo'orea in French Polynesia! The coffee table has a glass top so we could see through the glass panel on the floor under it and watch fish swimming under our bungalow. So fun!

We spent many happy hours (interpret as you wish!) on our beautiful terrace in San Miguel de Allende, Mexico with an amazing view of the city!

We had a charming apartment in the beautiful white village of Fragiliana, Spain.

in my review of this lovely airbnb apartment in Pittsburgh I said that it looked as if a designer decorated it and Mr. Clean was the housekeeper. Not sure about Mr. Clean being the housekeeper, but as it turned out the home owner is an interior designer. Beautiful and so comfy, cozy. We watched the snow fall from our gorgeous balcony in the fall of 2016.

Another airbnb in Pittsburgh. It's the 2000 square foot 2nd floor apartment in a fabulous old Victorian house overlooking the Ohio River. We were here for a month following the birth of our 4th grandchild, Gisele. In all the excitement of the new arrival, we didn't get many pics of anything but her!

These are a small sample of the places we've stayed. I'll share more later - a rustic lodge in Maine and another in Alaska, an apartment on the beach on Prince Edward Island, an incredible house in Guatemala, one in Las Galeras, Dominican Republic, one in Turks and Caicos, and many more! We loved them all! They were each "home" for a while! Let's Live There! Oh, yeah, we DID! And we'll continue!
